Night Out:

Part VI

An R.L. Mathewson Chronicle

“But-”

“The lady is all set,” Trevor bit out evenly to the waitress holding a decadent slice of chocolate fudge cake drizzled with raspberry sauce that looked really good as he leveled a glare on the man sitting at the table next to him, who was leaning over to pick up the spoon that he’d dropped, again.

“Of course,” the beautiful waitress that had been sending Trevor wistful glances all night, said with a smile and a nod before she walked away, taking the beautiful slice of cake with her.

With a heartfelt sigh, Zoe reluctantly shifted her attention back to her Kindle and-

“Would you care to dance?” someone nearby them said, making her bite back a sigh, because she would actually love to dance.

It was something that she normally didn’t get to do when they went out. For years it used to bother her, but now…

Now, she was wondering why Trevor was glaring at her. Okay, not quite glaring at her, she amended a moment later with a frown as she followed his gaze and found a handsome man in an expensively tailored suit standing next to her.

“No,” Trevor bit out with a murderous glare that the man standing by her side ignored as his smile turned charming as he asked, “Would you care to dance?”

“Thank you, but no thank you,” she murmured absently, sending him a curious look before returning her attention to her Kindle and-

“I want to go home,” Trevor said, making her frown.

“Are you okay?” she asked, glancing up to find him glaring towards the waitress heading their way carrying another glass of white wine.

“No, no I’m not,” he bit out, shifting his glare towards one of the men sitting at the bar.

She opened her mouth to point out that they hadn’t eaten yet, but thought better of it since he was giving her the excuse that she needed to go home, change out of the clothes that revealed a little more than she was comfortable with, and-

“Excuse me, but that gentleman at the bar sent this over,” another waitress said with a smile and a wink as she placed a much larger slice of chocolate cake on the table and-

“We’re going,” Trevor bit out as he threw money on the table, shoved his chair back, stood up and was dragging her towards the exit before she could inquire about getting a to-go box for that cake.

She considered asking, but that’s when the mumbling began.

YES! I love the twist here! That Zoe doesn’t think she’s pretty, but everyone else sees what she doesn’t & I like that…but on the other-hand, do these people (both male & female) not respect the ring anymore??? I mean I may be showing my age but a ring was a hands off sign! I can’t believe how brazen they are being.

Is it bad that part of me is thinking Ha! Maybe now he’ll understand how she’s been feeling when they went out on dates for years!
