Maternity Leave
Part VI
An R.L. Mathewson
“It needs to be organized,” Lucifer bit out as he got in his brother’s face.
“It really does,” Charlie murmured in agreement as she absently gestured with the hamburger that Lucifer made for her with a nod as her attention shifted to Aidan.
“She doesn’t need all this crap,” Aidan bit out with a glare at his brother, refusing to back down.
“He does make a good point,” Charlie said, nodding in agreement, pausing to take a sip of the chocolate shake that Lucifer made to go along with the shake before shifting her attention to the man that had been making her life a living hell before she’d realized what she had to do.
Give him another target.
She should probably feel bad about this, but since he forgot to pick up the jelly donuts that she’d asked for…
“What if the baby needs another blanket?” Charlie asked, taking a bite of her burger before gesturing to the stack of baby blankets that Lucifer had set aside to make more room in her bag for the assortment of baby onesies that he’d selected.
“The baby only needs one blanket to come home with,” Aidan pointed out, his glare never leaving his brother.
“What if he doesn’t like that blanket?” she asked, taking a sip of her milkshake even as she couldn’t help but wonder if Lucifer would be willing to make her another one.
Nodding, Lucifer bit out, “We’re going to need another bag.”
“We’re also going to need some strawberry ice cream,” Charlie added because she could really go for a strawberry milkshake right now.
And jelly donuts.
Definitely jelly donuts, she thought, going to take another bite out of her burger when she found herself watching T.J. walk into the kitchen with a sheepish smile on his face and-
“Someone grab her bag!” Devin sort of mumbled as he stumbled into the kitchen, one hand pressed against his forehead and the other one clutched a patch of grass to his chest.
“What’s going on?” Charlie asked, shooting T.J. a questioning look only to find her husband’s best friend helping himself to her milkshake.
“He’s having some sort of breakdown,” T.J. said, gesturing to her husband who was stumbling past her on his way to his cousins and grabbed the stack of blankets, hugged them against his chest, turned around and with a nod, said, “Let’s go,” as he slowly made his way back towards the front door.
“Is anyone going to stop him?” Charlie asked, taking another bite of her burger only to frown as she watched her husband suddenly stop, turn around and stumble the short distance back to her so that he could steal her burger, take a bite, mumble something unintelligible, and stumble back towards the front door.
“What exactly happened?” Aidan asked, shoving his brother out of his face and went after Devin as he opened the front door, finished off her burger and mumbled, “We’re having a baby,” before stumbling out the door.
“Don’t worry. He won’t get far,” T.J. said, holding up Devin’s keys.
“What’s wrong with him?” Charlie asked, trying not to panic as she turned her head to watch her husband stumble past the kitchen window as Aidan moved up behind him and-
“He messed up my pile,” Lucifer said, sighing heavily as she sat there, watching as Aidan tried to stop Devin only to end up jumping on his back when her husband wouldn’t stop.
“Is…is he trying to take Devin down with a chokehold?” she found herself asking, staring in horror as Aidan-
“It would probably be for the best if you didn’t watch this,” T.J. said as he reached over and placed his hand over her eyes.
Sighing heavily, Charlie reached up and pushed his hand away only to wonder why Dustin was home and-
“Oh, my god…”
“I told you not to watch.”
