Baking 101: Part V

            “Are you going to say anything?” Trevor asked, shifting nervously in front of her as she stood there, staring at him in disbelief.

            There was no way that he could have said what she thought he’d said, because that would mean that he’d willingly sat back and watched her make a fool out of herself for all these years. He wouldn’t do that. Not the man that she loved.

            “Sweetheart?” he said, continuing to shift nervously in front of her, which only made her more suspicious, because if there was one thing that she could say about her husband, besides that fact that he had an unnatural love of food, it was that he didn’t get nervous, about anything.

            Okay, so she was pretending that the first year with the twins had never happened or the multiple nervous breakdowns that he’d had when the twins had decided to make his life a living hell through diaper changes and bath time. It had been a scary time for them both, apparently more so for Trevor, who’d she’d been ninety-nine percent sure would have ended up in a psychiatric hospital somewhere because of the boys, but they’d somehow managed to pull through that first year with their sanity intact so it really shouldn’t count. At least, that’s what she told herself at night when she made the mistake of thinking about all those times she’d walked in the room to find Trevor covered in formula and baby food as he sat there, glaring at the boys who had glared right back…

            It had definitely been a frightening time and one that she liked to pretend never happened. So, with that being said, she could honestly say that she’d never seen Trevor this nervous before. Not even when he’d been trying to win her back and entertaining her in the process. Yes, he’d been over his head, but he’d never acted like this, like he was terrified that she was going to either cry or scream at him.

            Since the only time that she ever screamed at him was when she was pushing one of his abnormally large children out of her body, she decided to test this little theory out. Thanks to pregnancy hormones coursing through her veins, it didn’t take much to get the tears flowing and once they did, she knew that she’d been correct.

            The man that she’d loved, trusted and adored had royally screwed them over for years and for that, he was going to have to pay.
