Daddy’s Little Girl
Part IV
(Last one! I swear! Couldn’t send Mikey to the hospital without following up!)
“Explain to me how this happened again,” Kasey said as Trevor, who was wondering what the hell was taking them so long, struggled to keep Mikey’s arm still.
“I don’t need stitches!” Mikey yelled, somewhat desperately as she continued to try to squirm her way free so that she could make another run for it.
“Yes, you do,” Sebastian said, sighing heavily as he shifted to get more comfortable from where he lay across her legs, trying to keep them pinned to the bed.
“We are no longer speaking, sir!” Mikey said with a scathing glare for her best friend as Reese, who was holding down her other arm, continued to glare at him.
“Uh huh,” Sebastian mumbled, not really sounding all that concerned as he swiped to the next page on Mikey’s Kindle, which he’d helped himself to from the backpack that Kasey brought.
Trevor looked from the nasty gash on the side of Mikey’s face to the small woman who normally met him with teasing smiles and found himself mumbling, “She tripped,” when the look she was sending him had his balls pulling up tight in fear.
“She tripped,” Kasey murmured with a thoughtful look as she nodded.
“And the boy that she was bragging about making cry in the ambulance?” Zoe asked, narrowing her beautiful eyes on him.
“Should have run faster,” Mikey said with a sad shake of her head, making him bite back a smile.
“I see,” Kasey mumbled, nodding absently as her expression cooled and he realized that he would have been better dealing with the asshole still glaring at him.
“Now this won’t hurt a bit,” Roger, who’d they’d been forced to call in to handle this when Mikey sent the last five nurses crying from the room, which was impressive, said as he placed the IV kit on the small metallic tray and shifted so that he could get a better look at Mikey’s veins.
“Why are you lying to me?” Mikey demanded even as she doubled her efforts to pull her arm free.
“Because I can,” Roger said as he grabbed an alcohol pad and cleaned a spot on her arm.
“Don’t do it,” Mikey said firmly as she wiggled, strained and groaned in frustration.
“You need stitches, Mikey,” Roger explained as he discarded the wipe and grabbed the catheter.
“I just need a band aid!”
“Did she lose consciousness?” Roger asked as all eyes in the room landed on Trevor.
“Briefly,” Trevor said, deciding that it would probably be for the best if he didn’t talk from this point on.
“It was a nap!” Mikey snapped only to mumble, “Oh, no, no, no, no, no, oh, my god, no!” when Roger placed the needle against her skin.
“A nap?” Roger asked, sending him a questioning look as he slid the needle in and made quick work of finishing the rest and taping it off.
“Yes, I was very tired and felt that the park would make a lovely spot for a nap,” she explained as Roger started a bag of saline, grabbed the syringe off the table and-
“I like naps,” Mikey said with a heartfelt sigh and a sleepy smile a moment later, looking completely relaxed as whatever Roger just gave her coursed through her system.
“That should do it,” Roger said, gesturing for them to release her. After a slight hesitation, they released her and stepped back, prepared to grab her if she tried to make another run for it, but something told him that she wouldn’t be going anywhere this time.
“Did you know I liked naps?” she asked Sebastian as he shifted so that he was lying next to her.
“They’re life,” Sebastian said with a firm nod as he wrapped his arm around her and pulled her closer.
“They really are,” Mikey readily agreed with a watery smile as she laid the uninjured side of her head against his chest.
“Her x-rays look good. There’s no fractures, but I think we’re going to hold her overnight just to be on the safe side,” Roger explained as he scrubbed his hands at the sink as every pair of eyes in the room once again focused on him.
Except for Mikey that is, since she was too busy staring at the BP monitor that she wasn’t hooked up to. “Does that mean I’m dead?” she asked with a pointed look at the blank screen.
“Yes, yes, it does,” Sebastian said as Trevor bit back a sigh.
“That’s sad,” Mikey said, nodding solemnly.
“It really is,” Sebastian readily agreed as Trevor rubbed his hands roughly down his face with a, “I’m going to fucking drink.”
“Can they see me?” Mikey asked in a loud whisper.
“Nope, not at all,” Sebastian said, which was followed with several sighs, a few chuckles, and a, “This isn’t going to end well,” from Kasey.
“Can you see me?” Mikey asked, her words slurring a bit at the end there as she tilted her head back a bit so that she could look up at her best friend.
“Yes, but that’s only because I’m the ghost from Christmas Past,” he assured her.
“That does make sense,” Mikey mumbled in agreement.
“It does, doesn’t it?” Sebastian said absently as he placed the Kindle on his flat stomach and started reading again while Mikey’s attention went to Reese.
“Who’s he?”
Without bothering to look up from the Kindle, Sebastian said, “The Ghost of Christmas Future.”
“He looks angry,” she whispered.
“I’m not angry, baby girl,” Reese promised her only to have Mikey whisper, “He can hear me.”
“That’s because he speaks parseltongue,” Sebastian explained, making Roger chuckle as he grabbed a suture kit from the cabinet.
“Like from Harry Potter?” she asked in an awed whisper.
“Exactly like that,” Sebastian readily agreed with a nod.
“T-that means that I speak parseltongue?” she asked, sounding so damn hopeful.
“Yes.”
“I’ve always wanted to be a Slytherin,” Mikey said with a sniffle and a, “This is the happiest day of my life.”
