The Betrayal
Part IV
An R.L. Mathewson Chronicle
“Do you still want to pout?” came the softly murmured question that had Cayley releasing a heartfelt sigh, mostly because she felt that it would help make this better.
“I’m sorry it’s taking so long, sweetheart,” Bryce whispered softly in her ear as he pressed his lips against the back of her neck while he continued caressing her large belly.
“I’m so hungie,” Cayley mumbled sadly as she shifted back against her husband as she stared out the window.
“I know you are, sweetheart,” Bryce said as Cayley released another heartfelt sigh as she shifted her attention from the window to the bathroom as she debated her options and-
She’d put this off for long enough.
“I have to use the bathroom,” Cayley said, really not looking forward to this.
“Do you want me to get a nurse?” Bryce asked as she felt him shift back before climbing off the small bed.
“Yes,” she mumbled sadly as she shifted her attention back to the window.
“I’ll be right back,” Bryce promised as he kissed the top of her head, leaving her to lay there, sighing heavily as she watched the colorful leaves fall off the oak tree outside her room and-
“How long are you planning on ignoring me?” Sean asked from the comfort of his chair.
“Forever,” Cayley said with a firm nod that was quickly followed by a wince when the move somehow made the fact that she really had to use the bathroom worse.
Wincing, she placed her hand over her belly, shifted to get come comfortable, hoping the move would help her and-
Nope.
Definitely didn’t help.
Slowly exhaling, Cayley glanced over her shoulder, hoping to see her husband coming with help, only to bite back a whimper as her gaze once again found the bathroom. That’s when she swallowed hard, shifted again, regretted the move, winced, whimpered, and worried her bottom lip between her teeth as she shifted her gaze back to the window, hoping that the leaves would distract her from the fact that she really needed to use the bathroom.
“The back of your knuckles are turning white,” Sean said conversationally, making her realize that she had a death grip on the bed rail.
“I know,” Cayley mumbled weakly as her gaze once again shifted to the bathroom door.
There was a heavy sigh, and then Sean was getting up and making his way over to her. “When did you become such a pain in my ass?” he murmured absently as he carefully lowered the bedrail.
“Right around the time that I let your brother have his naughty way with me,” Cayley said as Sean took her hands in his and gently pulled her up until she was sitting up.
“I told you that you could do better,” Sean said with a sad shake of his head as he waited for her to climb off the bed.
“I know,” Cayley mumbled sadly, adding a sniffle at the end there as she slowly shifted to the edge, and after a slight hesitation and a wince, she managed to climb off the bed.
Once her feet touched the floor, Cayley slowly exhaled as she reached over to grab the pole for her monitor and IV and began shuffling her way to the bathroom and-
“Umm, Cayley?”
“Yes?” she mumbled weakly when she felt it.
“I think it might be a good idea if we got you back into bed,” Sean said as her grip tightened around the metal pole as she slowly looked down, only to slowly nod in agreement because that was probably a good idea.
“I think my water just broke,” Cayley mumbled weakly.
“I think that really went without saying,” Sean said as he joined her, careful not to step in the small puddle forming beneath her and wrapped his arm around her.
“I’d really like Bryce now,” she mumbled, glancing up to send Sean a pleading look.
“Me, too,” Sean said with a solemn nod as he carefully turned her around and-
Nope.
“Chair,” Cayley managed to get out as the pain that had been dulled down to a very uncomfortable ache thanks to the drugs Roger gave her had her struggling to remember how to breathe when excruciating pain tore through her back, letting her know that they’d worn off.
“I don’t think that’s a good idea,” Sean said as he moved to help her back to the bed, only to rethink that decision when she screamed the only thing that she could think of.
She screamed for her husband.
