Happy Birthday
Part II
An R.L. Mathewson Chronicle
“So, explain to me why I’m here with you,” Sebastian said, as Trevor sat there, wondering the same damn thing.
One minute he’d had Sebastian and was heading for his truck and the next…
He was standing here with his son, trying to make sense of the long list of things that he had to finish before tomorrow morning. He still wasn’t sure how she managed it, especially since one of them was supposed to bring Sebastian out for his birthday. When she realized that he had Sebastian, she should have realized that she’d lost and sucked it up, but instead, she’d grabbed hold of Jonathan, dragged him to her car, shoved him inside and torn out of the driveway while he’d stood there wondering where he’d gone wrong.
“I knew that I should have picked mom’s team,” Sebastian said with heavy sigh as he plucked the list out of Trevor’s hand that he couldn’t make much sense out of anyway and checked it.
“She cheated,” Trevor bit out, insulted that any of his children would pick their mother over him.
“Uh huh, sure she did,” Sebastian mumbled, not really sounding like he believed him.
“She did.”
“Of course she did, but then again, you say that every time she wins,” his smart ass son pointed out while he stood there, wondering how he was going to turn this one around.
Instead of arguing with his soon-to-be twelve-year-old son, he looked around the living room that still needed to be picked up, thought about all the things that they still needed to do, clean the bathrooms, the kitchen, pick up the backyard, hit the stores and pick up all the food that his family would devour within the first hour and back to his son.
Sebastian didn’t want this party, but he was doing it for his twin. Sebastian wasn’t into parties or a lot of the things that he did for his brothers and sister, but he did them if it meant making them happy. He deserved to have his own day, Trevor decided as he returned to looking around the messy house. Nodding to himself, he pulled out his phone and texted Kasey and asked for the favor that he swore that he wouldn’t ask for while she was pregnant since Reese would kill him, but he didn’t have much of a choice.
Before a minute past, she texted back letting him know that she had everything in hand. He shot one more look at Sebastian before he texted her back, asking for another favor as he said, “Pack a bag.”
“For what?” Sebastian asked, frowning as he looked up from the list that didn’t have a chance in hell of getting done now.
“We’re going camping.”
