Dear Reader...
Dear Reader,
Remember when I said that I was going to write Furious before Kale’s book because contemporary books were easier to write and faster? I think we can both agree that the Anger Management books do not fit into that category.
I forgot how much work actually went into these books, which was definitely a mistake. It took me a lot longer than it should have to reach the 95% mark and once I reached it…
Something wasn’t right.
I’d hoped to release it for October 30th and even bugged the groups about the release date, but as I was writing the end of Furious it felt…wrong. That’s the only way to describe it. I read through the book again, realized that there was a few spots that should have been clarified and still, it was off. I read through the ending again and again and I absolutely hated it. It was boring, predictable and not worthy of this couple in any way.
That’s when Fate stepped in.
Anyone remember Jenn? She used to beta read for me and throw things at me to keep me in line before life stepped in and took us both in different directions. The other night we started talking again and by the end of the night, she’d agreed to take another shot at it. She read through Devastated so that she had an idea of what I was looking for and then I sent her Furious…
She tore it apart.
We went back and forth yesterday trying to figure out what was missing, what was going wrong and we both agreed that the ending had to go, so today I deleted 4,000 words and that was not enough.
I deleted a little bit more.
Then we created a new list and realized that an additional 22,000 words was going to be needed to fix this book. Basically 11 more chapters, which we outlined. So, I know where I went wrong and what I need to do in order to fix this book.
That’s the good news.
The bad news…
Misunderstood has a hard due date in December that I cannot miss. I need to focus on that book first and make it the priority. I’m going to put Furious aside temporarily and work on it in my spare time so that I can focus on Misunderstood.
I’m definitely not happy about it. I’d planned on getting Furious, Unstoppable, and another book out by Christmas, but that doesn’t look like it’s going to happen this year and I’m telling myself that it’s fine because I refuse to rush a book or publish one that I hate. Furious will be published, but it’s on hold at the moment so that I can keep my promise for Misunderstood.
I’ve only taken a few days off this year, so that I could write every single day and meet my deadlines, but damn, Furious is kicking my ass! It’s definitely different than any of the other series that I write. That being said, I will be better prepared for the next book in this series.
Right now, the focus is Misunderstood and as soon as that’s done, I will finish Furious. Then I will write Kale’s book and finally get to Shayne’s book from the Cursed Heart series as well as several other books. It will happen, I just have to take it one book at a time.
I apologize for having to break my promise for Furious. I could publish it tomorrow, but we would probably all hate it. I want to make this book worth the wait.
R.L.
I love your books and am happy for you to take as long as you need to get it right. It gives me joy and puts a smile on my face when I sit down and open a new book by you, actual happiness. Keep up the great work.
I am a huge fan of your books and if ANY author wants a recommended read…your name is first on the list. I’ll be honest, I’ve not read the Anger Management Series yet. I’ve wanted to wait till there were more books out. I’ve read all your others though and there is not one that I’ve not liked. Needless to say, I will be one to tell you to take as long as you need to to get the book right. A good book will stay with you for a very long time (that’s what makes it a good book…duh!). I’m looking forward to many more books from you!
Thank you for giving us quality materials to consume every time you publish a book I will definitely wait as long as you need to give us a product that you are completely happy and proud of ❤️
