A Lovely Stroll Through the Woods
Part II
An R.L. Mathewson Chronicle
“Oh, God,” she mouthed as she clung to the large wet rock and swung her gaze to the left and then to the right before she slowly lowered herself back into the frigid water that was doing its best to bash her against the rock that she was currently hiding behind.
Where was he?
Swallowing, she slowly looked over her shoulder and sighed when she didn’t see her incredibly angry mate standing there, watching her. Nibbling on her bottom lip, she ran her gaze along the woods and grassy beach, looking for any sign of him. When she didn’t find anything she slowly crept her way back out of the water until she was peeking just over the top of the large rock and could see the other side of the embankment.
He wasn’t there either.
She shot another glance to her right and then her left, but the only thing that she could see was the water rushing towards her, doing its best to knock her off this rock and pull her back down the river. For a moment she considered letting it do just that, but she couldn’t help but feel that this was a trap.
Where the hell was he?
Closing her eyes, she scented the air only to end up shaking her head in disgust and lowering herself back into the water. She should have eaten before following his sound advice and running for her life, but since she’d managed to seriously piss him off with that whole pit fiasco she didn’t think that he would have been open to letting her have a little bite first. Without his blood her abilities weren’t really going to help her right now.
Maybe she should double back to camp, strip naked, and wait for him with a saucy little smile and a wink and hope that it was enough to distract him from his admittedly justifiable anger. It was probably her best bet, she decided, wondering if she should wait for him on her knees or-
“Miss me?” Caine, her mate that she loved very much and prayed was in a forgiving mood, whispered softly in her ear as he wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her away from the safety of her precious rock.
“Would it help if I said yes?” she asked, sounding hopeful as he carried her off to exact his well-deserved revenge.
“No,” he said, not missing a beat as he swung her up and over his shoulder.
She didn’t bother trying to escape, because they both knew that he’d catch her. Besides, she had him wrapped around her little finger so she didn’t need to worry.
She had him right where she wanted him.
