A Day in the Life of…
Part V
An R.L. Mathewson Chronicle
“Let’s have that talk, shall we?” the large man that sounded upset for some reason said as he relaxed his hold around her legs and-
“What did you want to talk about?” Jenn asked even as she couldn’t help but wonder if they could wait to have this conversation when he wasn’t holding her upside down, threatening to drop her into the large pond below that looked kind of cold with all that ice floating on it.
“Many things,” Matt said conversationally.
“Such as…”
“Why don’t we start with what you’re doing here,” he suggested, making her frown.
“You told me to run and then started counting,” she reminded him, still wondering how he found her so quickly.
Granted, that probably had something to do with her muttering, “God, I hate running!” as she raced through the woods, hoping that he’d been kidding.
He hadn’t been.
No, what he’d been doing was toying with her. She’d barely managed to break through the woods when he grabbed her. Before she could suggest that they sit down and discuss matters, he was throwing her over his shoulder and carrying her over to the pond and threatening to drop her if she didn’t stop pissing him off. Since that probably wasn’t going to happen anytime soon…
“That’s not what I meant,” Matt said, sounding bored.
“Is this about the donuts?” she asked, worrying her bottom lip.
“What about the donuts?” he asked after a slight pause.
“Nothing,” she said, wincing even as she decided that it might be in her best interest to go grab some more donuts before he realized that she ate the last one.
“No, what I thought we’d talk about is why I can’t seem to get rid of you,” he drawled, sounding really relaxed while she hung upside down, trying not to think about that last double chocolate donut that she ate.
“Because I’m fun to have around?” she suggested, sounding hopeful.
“Try again.”
“Because I’m helpful?”
“Yeah, I don’t think so,” he said, pulling her away as she struggled to keep her hold on his legs.
“Because Reed felt that it would be in my best interest to do something more constructive with my free time than to torment people for my own entertainment?” Jenn said, really hoping that he didn’t drop her in that water since she couldn’t swim and all.
“And what exactly does that have to do with me?” Matt asked as she grabbed hold of his pants and held on for dear life.
“Everything?” she said, really hoping that would be enough.
“Try again.”
“You needed the help?” she pointed out.
“I see,” he mumbled, sounding thoughtful as he stopped trying to pull her away.
“So, you’re going to let me go?”
“No, what I’m going to do is make a deal with you. I can either drop you in the water or…” he said, purposely letting his words trail off.
“Or?” she said, already deciding to go with the Or.
“Or you can stop coming around here and bugging the shit out of me so that I can go back to my pain in the ass free life,” Matt said, giving her legs a pointed shake that had her sucking in a breath.
“And if I don’t?” Jenn asked, squeezing her eyes tightly shut.
“Do you really want to find out?”
“Not really,” she said even though she knew that she probably didn’t have a choice.
Can’t wait to read the next one. Safari on my iPad is always on your website just so I can catch up with the NFH family.
Love this! When is the book on these two going to come out??
Hi, Emily, I’m going to be doing something different with their story. I’m debating a few things first to see if it would work 🙂
Fo you have a release date for Matt, and Jenn book yet? I’m so inlove with the entire series as well as pyte.
Not yet. They need a couple of years to mature a bit first. They’re still 15 and 18. I like them a little bit older 🙂 I’m glad you enjoy the books 🙂
