A Bradford's Mother's Day
Part I
“If you would just let me-”
“No,” came the immediate reply that left Haley with no choice but to pout as she sat there, staring wistfully at the patio doors that overlooked the backyard filled with Bradfords enjoying what appeared to be a very lovely barbecue.
Licking her lips nervously, Haley opened her mouth and-
“Stop trying to ruin Mother’s Day for me, woman!”
-grumbled when the man that she loved more than anything leveled a glare on her until she was left with no choice but to release a heartfelt sigh as she focused on the man determined to make Mother’s Day absolutely perfect for her.
For a moment, Jason stood there, watching her as he waited for her to pull the blanket that he’d given her earlier back over her lap. That was followed by an approving nod as Jason released a satisfied sigh as he picked up the tray that he’d prepared for her off the coffee table and placed it on the couch next to her.
Frowning, Haley glanced down at the tray, only to frown as she glanced back up at her husband to find him gesturing for her to get on with it. Not really sure what she was supposed to do, Haley glanced back down at the tray as she pushed her glasses back up her nose as she took in the tray covered with nail polish, a manicure set, face masks, lotions, and an assortment of items that left her admittedly confused.
“What’s this?” Haley asked as she glanced back up at her husband in time to see him place a box of chocolates on the couch next to her along with the television remote.
“Happy Mother’s Day,” Jason said with a firm nod.
Blinking, Haley looked from the tray next to her, back to the patio doors just in time to see Trevor walk past the doors with a plate overflowing with all of her favorite barbecue items. “What about the barbeque?”
“It’s part of my Mother’s Day gift to you,” Jason said while she was forced to sit there, watching as her father-in-law devoured another hot dog.
“I see,” Haley murmured as she watched Lucifer place more burgers on one of the many grills they’d set up in the backyard. “Then, why am I banned from going?”
“Because it’s part of my plan,” Jason murmured absently as he grabbed the remote and put the television on for her.
“And what plan is this?” Haley absently asked as she watched as Sebastian was forced to wrestle a can of Coke away from Grandma.
“The one where I guarantee that no one bothers you,” Jason said with a firm nod as he once again gestured for her to get on with it.
“I love barbecues,” Haley mumbled helplessly as her gaze once again shifted to the backyard.
“Which is why I’ll bring you a plate of food in a little while,” Jason said, nodding as he leaned down and kissed the top of her head. “Until then, you’re to stay here and relax.”
“But-”
“What did you tell us that you wanted for Mother’s Day this year?” Jason asked as he double-checked the selection of drinks that he’d arranged for her on the coffee table.
“Full control of the television, a spa day, and the house to myself, along with unlimited naps,” Haley mumbled with a pout and a sniffle as she once again glanced back at the barbecue.
“And that’s exactly what you’re getting,” Jason said with one last kiss. “Don’t leave this couch.”
For a moment, she sat there, watching her husband as he headed outside to check on the grill before she released a heartfelt sigh and took in the selection of blankets, snacks, and items that her husband left to help her pass the time. Knowing that she wouldn’t get another chance like this for a while, Haley grumbled to herself as she grabbed the remote and-
“What are we watching?” Cole asked as he dropped down on the couch next to her and helped himself to the chocolate.
Blinking, Haley watched as her son popped the chocolate in his mouth before helping himself to a blanket off the pile with a satisfied sigh.
