Chapter 12: The Naughtier Chronicles

The Naughtier Chronicles

Chapter 12

by

R.L. Mathewson

(For Previous Chapters)

She was adorable, Cole had to admit, but she was still a lightweight, he thought, chuckling to himself as he reached over and patted Mikey on the head before turning around to head upstairs only to realize that he didn’t have to do that.

Not tonight.

And especially not when he could just walk out the front door and do whatever the hell he wanted. With that in mind, Cole turned around and headed for the front door, in absolutely no rush tonight. He could take his time, enjoy a stroll across their yards before he climbed up to Chloe’s room and called it a night instead of having to climb out his window, pray that he missed his mother’s roses, and tried to make it to the woods that separated their properties before his parents spotted him.

“Are you really sure that you want to do this?” Mikey asked as he reached the front door.

“Absolutely,” Cole said, throwing a wink over his shoulder to the girl that still had so much to learn about being a Bradford.

She’d learn, but until then, Cole was going to make sure that she knew better than to-

“What the hell?” he asked, staring down in disbelief as raw egg slowly began dripping down his shirt before looking up and-

“Crap!”

“So, I guess this is the part where we need to have a talk about the rules,” Mikey, who had somehow managed to get her hands on the eggs from the refrigerator and made it around the house before he had a chance to step off the front steps, said conversationally as she grabbed another egg and-

“Ow!”

Reminded him just dangerous that right arm of hers really was.

“Stop doing that!” Cole snapped when she managed to nail him in the stomach with what appeared to be a double-yolk.

“Get back inside,” Mikey said, sounding bored as she grabbed another egg and-

“What the hell is wrong with you?” he demanded when she threw another egg.

“Everything,” came the answer as the front door was opened behind him.

He nearly sighed with relief when he spotted Sebastian standing behind him, knowing that his cousin was going to reel in his psychotic best friend and-

“Ow!” Cole snapped as he watched in horror as Sebastian tossed another carton of eggs to the little demon.

“Are you going back inside?” Mikey asked, taking her time as she selected her next egg.

“No!” Cole snapped even as he debated his odds of making it to the woods before she could-

“Stop doing that!” he demanded when he was forced to wipe egg white off his face.

“Go back inside and I will,” Mikey drawled as she reached for another egg.

“You’re going to run out eggs eventually and when you do, I’m going to-”

“Damn it!”

“True, but I’m sure that I’ll be able to find something else to help convince you that it would be in your best interest to go back inside and go to bed like a good little boy,” the little brat said with a wistful sigh.

“Why do you even care what I do?” Cole demanded only to curse when she held up another egg and he was forced to take a step back.

“I didn’t until you questioned my authority,” Mikey said with a shrug as she absently tossed the egg in the air and caught it. “Now, I feel like we should come to an understanding.”

“I understand that you’re insane!” Cole snapped only to stumble back into the house when she moved to throw another egg.

As soon as he was safely inside, Cole slammed the door shut, threw the lock and then pressed his back against the door to make sure that the little brat couldn’t get back inside and-

“That probably won’t end well for you,” Sebastian murmured absently as he tucked in Hunter, who was now fast asleep in his crib, making Cole shake his head in wonder, still trying to figure out how he did it.

“What won’t end well for me?” Cole asked, only to remember the kitchen door.

Biting back another curse that he didn’t want his little brother repeating, he quickly made his way to the kitchen door and locked it. When he was done, he double-checked the back door, the patio door and all the windows, ensuring that the little demon was-

Standing in front of the window that he was currently double-checking, smiling like she didn’t have a care in the world as she gestured behind him as she said, “You do realize that you just locked yourself in with Sebastian, right?” right around the time that Cole realized his mistake.

Really hoping that Sebastian was quietly sitting on the couch, reading another book, Cole turned around and…felt his stomach drop when he realized that Sebastian was standing behind him with an unholy gleam in his eye that had Cole really wishing that he’d gone to bed when he’d had the chance.
