The Great Lockdown of 2020
Part IX
An R.L. Mathewson Chronicle
“Why are you glaring at Dad?” Joshua asked, frowning as he reached for his brother’s plate only to have his hand absently slapped as Cole continued to sit there, glaring at his father.
“You don’t want to know,” Cole said, narrowing his eyes on Jason, who she’d like to point out, was glaring right back.
This was not going to end well.
Not at all…
They probably should have had this talk last night, but that would have been difficult to do with her trying to remember how to breathe as she tried to figure out a way to explain what they were doing. Thankfully, well, maybe not thankfully, Cole had turned around, screaming something else about his eyes, blindly ran towards the stairs, missed, knocked himself out, and gave them the distraction that they needed.
When he finally regained consciousness, he’d taken one look at his father and the glaring began and it hadn’t stopped since. He’d continued to glare as Aidan cleaned his cut and told him to take it easy, when Jason went to help him stand up, anytime Jason went within ten feet of her, and every time in between.
“This is starting to get creepy,” Elizabeth murmured, looking thoughtful as she went to take a bite of her bacon only to stop when Cole turned that glare on her.
“You couldn’t possibly imagine how creepy it could get,” Cole bit out coldly as he reached over and stole the bacon out of her hand as he slowly turned his glare back on his father.
Biting back a sigh, Haley went to sit down next to Jason only to release that sigh when Cole stretched out so that he could place his foot on her seat, stopping her from sitting down. Without tearing his glare away from his father, he reached over and pulled the chair out next to her. “Why don’t you sit next to me?” Cole said, his eyes narrowing on his father as he silently dared him to do something about it.
Nodding absently, Jason popped a piece of bacon in his mouth, reached down and-
“Damn it!” Cole said, jumping out of his chair and stumbled back away from the table all while glaring at his father.
“Sit down, my little grasshopper,” Jason said as he reached over and pulled the chair next to him out for her.
“Thank you,” Haley said, placing her plate down as she sat to down next to her husband and-
“This isn’t over, old man!” Cole snapped, pointing a damning finger at Jason before he stormed out of the kitchen only to turn right back around with a curse, glare at his little brother when Joshua reached for his plate, grabbed his food, and with one last glare aimed at Jason, stormed out of the room muttering something about his father keeping his damn hands to himself.
Frowning, Joshua returned his attention to his plate as he asked, “What was that about?”
Blinking, Jason said, “What are you talking about?”
“That?” Elizabeth said, pointing to the large window behind them and-
“I’m watching you!” Cole snapped as he pressed his face against the window, pointing a damning finger at Jason as he shoved the rest of his egg sandwich in his mouth all while he narrowed his eyes on his father.
There was a heavy sigh and then, “If you’ll excuse me,” Jason said, pushing his chair back and stood up with another sigh as he headed towards the front door.
Cole watched the move through narrowed eyes until Jason reached the front door and then…
“He should have run faster,” Joshua said, absently reaching over to help himself to his father’s plate as he watched Jason grab Cole and-
“He really should have,” Elizabeth said, nodding in agreement as Haley got to her feet, stumbled, and raced as fast as she could to the front door only to wince when her fifteen-year-old son began screaming, “Mommy!”
Love it… Poor Cole.
OMG!!! I love it!!! I think Jason has to watch his back.
